Book Review - Plug Your Book: Online Book Marketing For Authors

Filed under: book promotion — richard @ 10:33 am

I found this book while reading a post on Morris Rosenthal’s blog. All I can say is: Wow. It has to be the most comprehensive book on the subject of online book marketing since my dear wife’s tome six years ago.

The book is especially strong in covering promotional opportunities using the new social networking tools like MySpace, del.icio.us, LibraryThing and Digg.

His chapters on Amazon, and in particular the one on Amazon reviews, made me think in new directions. And that is saying something coming from me - a guy who’s been in the online marketing game since the beginning in 1995 and has seen it all.

But what finally sealed the deal was the endorsement from Steve O’Keefe, who is a good friend and someone whose promotional genius with books I was fortunate to witness firsthand as we worked together during the heyday of the Dotcom boom. Steve, quite literally, invented the field of online book promotion.

Every author needs a copy of this book.

  1. Richard,

Hey, thanks for the mention. Weber sent me the manuscript and I flipped over it. His advice on online merchandising for authors is second to none. And you’re right that the Amazon stuff was very eye-opening.

One thing I like about Weber — and you and me for that matter — is he doesn’t oversell it. Most of the tactics he talks about take time and produce marginal results. But all of them together add up to a powerful campaign.

It’s hard to find people like Steve Weber who have enough experience to make convincing recommendations and are willing to spill their secrets. Looks like us old timers are going to have to slide over and make some room on the guru shelf for Steve Weber.
