SUBMIT A MANUSCRIPT
Submitting a manuscript is a straightforward process. Basically you fill out a form and email us the file for review. Below is the form. But before we get to that, here are some details about us you should consider before submitting.
Online Marketing
We recommend authors read this series of articles before submitting. The series steps through the process of doing an online marketing campaign.
While we are happy to help you with guidance and resources every step of the way, you will ultimately have to perform some or all of the tasks outlined in the series to succeed with our form of publishing.
Online marketing is the principal way we sell books through BookLocker. If you don't already have a clear alternate marketing plan, and aren't willing to perform the tasks outlined in the above series, you will be disappointed with the results of our service and should reconsider submitting your book to us.
What We Don't Publish
1.) We cannot publish books for authors located outside of the USA, unless they are in the United Kingdom or Canada.
2.) BookLocker does not publish poetry books. However, books with the occasional poem included are fine.
3.) BookLocker.com does not publish books that may pose a legal liability to the company and/or the author. (i.e. celebrity or other "tell-all" books, "my-ex-wife-slept-around" books, "my-ex-employer-is-a-jerk-and-I'm- getting-back-at-him" books, "I-was-unfairly-prosecuted-by-the-government-and-I'm-now-in-prison" books, etc.)
Jerks Need Not Apply
All BookLocker authors are part of our family. We treat all authors with the same kindness and a smile.We don't work with "prima donna" authors - people who think they're more important than other BookLocker authors. To put it simply, we don't work with jerks. If you fit this description, please do not submit your manuscript to us.
Don't Submit Print Manuscripts Bigger Than 3 Megs
While we do publish print books that are several megs in size, we don't not want manuscripts submitted for consideration to be over 3 Megs. So, if your file is over 3 Megs, please save it as a text-only file (this will remove graphics), rename it, and submit that to us.
We don't require any specific formatting to consider a manuscript for publication so don't worry about stripping out your formatting when doing this.
Some authors ignore this request, email us files that are 10 or 20 or more megs, and choke Angela's emailbox. If an author does this, we must automatically delete their submission from the server and reject their book. So, please ensure your manuscript does not exceed 3 megs.
If your book is accepted, you'll be able to send larger files to us via our upload site when submitting the final file.
No CDs or Paper Manuscripts
Please do not mail us a CD or a paper manuscript for consideration. We only accept manuscript for consideration by email.
The Submission Process
Your book must be accepted for publication by BookLocker prior to being listed on booklocker.com. Once you receive a letter of acceptance, you will be provided with very detailed submission instructions. We screen manuscripts for quality and salability, so please make sure you are submitting your best material. Books rejected by BookLocker are not eligible for future consideration.
Here are the major reasons we reject books:
1.) Spelling and grammatical errors.
2.) Poor writing.
3.) Low sales potential.
4.) Non-fiction books containing any type of bigotry (including religious books that slam other religions), sexual content that is too strong (titillating romance is fine; child abuse or graphic rape scenes are absolutely not, even in a fictional setting), books that teach others how to do something illegal or unethical(how to steal credit card numbers; how to clean up your bad credit), or any other content that we feel is inappropriate and/or offensive to the general public.
5.) Books that may contain libel, hate material, or anything that makes us uncomfortable and that may disturb or harm readers.
The submission process is two steps.
First, fill out the form below. We'll use this to create a log of your submission.
Second, after you submit this information, we'll give you an email address and an ID number. You'll use that email address to submit your manuscript and you'll put the ID number in the subject line of the email.
Note: We can only accept electronic submissions. We can't accept manuscripts that are not in an electronic format.
