Ebooks

Ebooks are listed at no cost, provided they are in PDF.

If want us to convert the file into PDF for you, we can for $35. We recommend trying to do it for free first at: http://createpdf.adobe.com/. You have to sign up for an account, but the first five conversions are free.

Print-On-Demand – Black and White Interior with Color Cover

We charge a setup fee of $299 for print books, which can be fiction or non-fiction. This includes: formatting the book per our printer’s specs, an ISBN (you can use your own if you want), ebook creation (optional), a barcode, and putting your book in our distribution system and in Ingram’s system. Returning authors receive discounted setup fees ($149) for their second and subsequent books. This includes choosing to publish a hardcover edition if they published a paperback first, and vice-versa.
You also need to have a book cover for your book. If you can do one per our specifications, there is no charge but we may be charged extra for files that are not submitted to our specs. (Note: A cover file consists of a front, back and spine as one file, not just a front and/or back, designed in a professional program, 300 dpi, CMYK colors, to our printer’s specs.) If you don’t have one, you can buy a custom or template cover. See prices above. Authors who purchase a cover from BookLocker work directly with the designer to ensure the cover is what they want and the Author then owns all rights to the cover. NOTE: If you choose to hire a third party to design your cover, please understand that there is no licensing requirement for cover designers and many claiming to be professional designers are not. You may be charged extra for files submitted that are not to spec because it is time-consuming to make lists of specific problems with files created by third parties.

We charge an $18 annual POD file hosting fee for each print book.

Optional Charge

We offer a one-time, small print ad in Ingram’s monthly catalog, which is distributed to bookstores. Personally, we wouldn’t recommend doing it. There are better ways to spend $70 promoting your book. But we offer it because some authors ask for it.

Penalty Fees

There are certain points in the POD production process after which things cannot be altered without incurring additional charges. You will be given a warning before incurring these fees, which are as follows:

There is a $99.50 charge if, and only if, you decide you want changes after we produce the electronic version (the final pdf file) of the proof, but before the files are uploaded to the printer. We must charge this fee because we must go backwards in the process to make changes at this point.

There is a $149.00 fee required if changes are required after the files are uploaded to the printer. The printer charges us more for revisions than they do for original files. This fee covers those charges as well as our fees to process your new file(s).

There is a cover change fee of $90 for minor changes to covers bought through BookLocker. This fee covers minor text changes and spine width adjustments. Design changes require a new cover design fee.
